Help and support
Sharing and synchronization
On the device with your notes, choose Settings → Sharing → Share my notes. On the other device, scan or paste its sharing code. Compare the device code and approve the request on the sharing device. Keep both apps open and connected while notes synchronize. Local editing works offline. Approved devices have owner rights and can approve or remove other devices. “Saved on this device” means the local save finished; it does not prove delivery to another device. A peer network connection also does not confirm this workspace has fully synchronized.
Choosing a workspace
Use Settings → Workspaces to switch between sets of notes or rename them. Joining another notebook keeps your previous notes in their own workspace. Notes written in one workspace do not automatically appear in another.
A device was removed
The removed device can continue writing in a private workspace containing its cached notes. Its changes do not reach the shared notebook, and it cannot receive future shared changes. To link it again, ask an owner for a new sharing code and approval.
Restoring access
Keep another device linked and save your recovery words from Settings → Recovery. On a replacement device, use Restore access with your saved words and a new sharing code from a surviving device. Its owner must approve. If every copy of the notebook is lost, the words alone cannot recover its contents.
Exporting and importing notes
Settings → Export and import exports one workspace, including Trash, to a Notes JSON backup. Save the readable, unencrypted file somewhere private. Import previews the destination and adds separate note copies, preserving checklist completion, colors, and dates without overwriting existing notes. Backups support up to 20 MB and 10,000 notes. An interrupted import can continue from its remaining notes while the screen stays open; already imported notes are kept. Reimporting the entire file later creates additional copies. Imported files do not restore device ownership or sharing access.
Android backups and device transfer
Android system backup and device-to-device transfer are off. You can import a saved JSON export as independent note copies, or restore access to a shared notebook through a surviving linked device and approval. Recovery words alone do not copy your notes.
A note was deleted while you were editing
The editor stops writing to the deleted note. Remaining text stays on the screen so you can copy it before leaving. This text is kept only while that screen remains open; copying it does not restore the deleted shared note.
Notes will not open
Try again after checking available storage on your device. If the workspace list is damaged, Notes uses a valid local safety copy when available and retains the damaged file. This safety copy contains workspace settings, not a separate backup of notebook contents. If no usable copy is available, the app shows help instead of resetting your saved notes. Keep the app installed and contact support; clearing storage or reinstalling can discard the only remaining copy. Recovery on a replacement device still needs a surviving linked device.
Deleting notes and local data
Move notes to Trash from the editor. Settings → Trash lets you restore the note with its checklist and color, or permanently delete its visible record. These actions propagate to linked devices when connected. Trash does not expire automatically. Operation history and other copies are not securely erased. System storage controls or uninstalling remove local app data, but exported files remain wherever you saved them.
When requesting help
Describe what happened, your device model, and your Notes version. Share screenshots only after removing private contents. Never send recovery words, private keys, pairing codes, or sensitive note text. The support issue tracker is public, so everyone can read anything you post there.
